Eleonore Christine Harboe was the daughter of captain lieutenant, later commander Frederik Ludvig Carl Harboe (1758-1811) and Marie née Kallager (1770-1845). ECH painted all his life both portraits and copies after older masters. She remained unmarried and lived in the house of her friend Admiral Wessel Brown, who was married to Peter Caspar Wessel Brown. In 1856 she traveled to Rome where she painted until her death in 1860 in a Catholic foundation. Shortly before that, she had become a nun at Støvringgård Monastery. Her works have since been exhibited at the Women's Exhibition in Copenhagen 1895 and at the Women's Artists' Retrospective Exhibition, 1920.
