Cornelius Høyer is considered one of the greatest miniature painters in Danish art history in the second half of the 18th century. Despite a modest upbringing, Høyer achieved a brilliant career from the 1760s onwards at several European princely courts - e.g. by the Swedish and the French - and his international reputation earned him customers among Europe's leading collectors and art connoisseurs.
Høyer contested the post of Danish court miniature painter in the years 1769-1804.
