Box of full guilloché silver, covered with purple enamel, lid with a larger green garnet surrounded by a laurel wreath inset with four smaller green garnets. Inside gilt and stamped 'A. Tillander', 'A.T.' as well as kokoshnik with left facing face and zolotniki 88 with Cyrillic guardein stamp 'RL' / Latin 'J AL' for Yemelyan Mikhailovich Yaroslavsky (Guardein in the period 1898-1903). H. 2.3, Ø 4.8 cm. The silver edge of the lid with scratches on the right side, otherwise in good age-appropriate condition.
Tillander was born in Finland in 1837 and, in 1848, as an eleven-year-old, apprenticed in St. Petersburg, worked with K. R. Bech and R. K. Schubert and in 1860 became a master jeweler. After this, together with his companions, he founded his own jewelery company and, in 1870, became sole owner of the company until his death in 1918.
